1. Reading and search on your device
Bastion stores downloaded books and search indexes on your device. Smart search processes your question locally using the included search model and installed categories. Questions are not sent to a search or AI service.
The app stores bookmarks, optional notes, collection names and membership, reading history and saved reading positions locally. It also stores your starred categories, app preferences, download progress and the latest Smart search question and selected category so you can return to them. Bastion does not provide cloud synchronization of this data.
The app does not include advertising, an analytics SDK, tracking identifiers or automatic crash-report uploads. It does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone or location for its features.
2. Content downloads and catalogue updates
Bastion connects to bastion-downloads.harmswhey.com, hosted through Cloudflare, to refresh the category catalogue and download or update categories. A catalogue refresh can happen automatically when the library service starts. Download requests identify the requested package and byte range. They do not include your question, bookmarks, notes or reading history.
Like other internet services, Cloudflare receives connection information such as your IP address, request time, requested URL, headers and response information. That information may be processed for delivery, caching, reliability, abuse prevention and security logging. This is separate from the reading and search data kept inside Bastion. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for its practices.
Bastion keeps a local catalogue cache and download/error state. Optional download error details can include a category ID, byte offsets, response status and selected response headers. They are not automatically sent to the developer. If you choose Share error details, review them and choose a destination using the device’s sharing controls.
3. Personal backups and device services
You can export bookmarks, notes, collections and saved reading positions to a JSON file. The file contains readable text and is not encrypted by Bastion. It does not include downloaded books, starred categories, app preferences or search questions. You choose where to save or share it. A selected cloud drive, email app or other service handles the file under its own policies.
On Android, the app disables Android’s automatic app backup setting, although device manufacturers may still permit device-to-device transfer. On iOS, local app data may be included in your device or iCloud backups depending on your settings. Your operating system and device services may also process diagnostics according to your settings; Bastion does not control those services.
4. This website and support email
This website uses Cloudflare hosting. It does not add analytics scripts, advertising, third-party fonts, tracking cookies or a contact form. Cloudflare still receives normal connection and security information when you visit a page.
If you email the developer, your email address, message and any attachments are received through Gmail and used to respond to your request, investigate the issue or act on your feedback. Email also passes through your chosen email provider. Please send only what is needed and remove private information from screenshots or logs. Do not send passwords, payment details or complete personal backups.
Support messages are kept while needed to resolve and follow up on the request. You may ask for their deletion. Messages may be retained when needed to meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute; email-provider backup copies may persist according to the provider’s processes. See Google’s privacy policy for Gmail’s practices.
5. Purchases
Apple or Google handles purchases through its store. Bastion does not receive your payment card details and does not operate a purchase account or receipt-verification service. The store may process purchase, account and device information under its own policies.
6. Your choices and deletion
You can clear search text, remove saved reading places or history, delete bookmarks and collections, and remove downloaded categories in the app. Deleting a category does not delete separately stored bookmarks. Uninstalling the app removes its local app data, subject to your operating system’s backup and restore behavior. Exported files and copies you shared must be deleted separately from their destinations.
You can use installed books and search without a connection. Going offline prevents online catalogue checks, optional downloads and access to this website. There is no Bastion account to close. Contact the developer about support-message access, correction or deletion, or other privacy requests.
7. Children and changes to this policy
Bastion is a general reference tool and is not directed at children under 13. The developer does not knowingly request personal information from children. If you believe a child sent personal information to support, contact the developer to request deletion.
If Bastion’s data handling changes, this page will be updated with a new revision date. Material changes will be described through an appropriate notice before they take effect.
8. Privacy contact
